The end of October is near, and that means Breast Cancer Awareness Month is coming to a close.

This doesn’t mean that you should dismiss it during other months, however.

Did you know that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? This month is a time to come together, to raise awareness and promote early detection in breast cancer awareness month.

While we still refrain from many social outings or appointments since we’re all living in the aftermath of COVID-19, we want to remind you to still do your monthly breast exams and to schedule your mammogram with your doctor.

Here are some facts about breast cancer:

– While the survival rate for localized breast cancer (meaning it hasn’t spread outside of that area) is 99% after 5 years, that doesn’t make the severity of the illness any lighter.

– It’s the most common cancer that women will get in the U.S., just after skin cancer.

-It’s very rare, but men can get breast cancer, too.

When women go through chemotherapy and lose their hair, some opt for alternative hair solutions.

There is no right or wrong answer, and it’s up to every woman to make her own decision.

The most important thing at the end of the day is to feel confident and ready to walk through the world, whether or not that includes alternative hair.

Here at STRUT, whether you choose to wear a turban or a wig, we’re a part of the Recover with Confidence program, a nationwide program which partners with stores like us to best help women who are experiencing hair loss. Recover With Confidence providers have talented, licensed cosmetologists to customize wigs to the exact color and style for you.

Recover with Confidence offers alternative hair solutions which are specifically tailored towards those undergoing medical hair loss – meaning that they are formed to be comfortable even if someone’s scalp is tender from undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. While the way you feel in a wig is the most important part of the process of choosing a wig, the comfort of the wig itself also matters.

We understand that most of our clients don’t come to us for alternative hair for purely cosmetic reasons. Many women experience hair loss and don’t want anyone else to know that they found a wig or hair extensions. Some women need extra volume in their hair and choose to wear hair extensions. Others are undergoing chemotherapy and want to feel like themselves again when they look in the mirror.

The bottom line is SELF-CONFIDENCE.

This is a serious decision which impacts your daily life and how you see yourself in the mirror, and how you believe that others perceive you as well.

At STRUT, we try our very best to make you feel comfortable, and to make sure that you walk out feeling as confident. In October, all of our team wears pink hair to show we care!
